Rock, Paper, Scissors, Catch
Grade Level: K-6 (younger grades may have difficulty with this game - may need to adapt the game to make it more suitable for your grade level)
Skills Developed: Locomotor and non-locomotor skills (running, fleeing, dodging, tagging), cooperation, teamwork, and spatial awareness.
Equipment Needed: None
How to Play:
Designate the playing area - I generally use the basketball lines to define the playing area with the centre line creating a division between the two teams.
*Tie Breaker: If there is a tie (i.e. both teams play "rock"), all players must quickly sit down on the floor. The last player to sit down switches teams.

Designate the playing area - I generally use the basketball lines to define the playing area with the centre line creating a division between the two teams.
- Divide the class into two teams.
- Teams go to their respective side of the gym. Here, as a group they will decide whether they are going to be "rock", "paper", or "scissors".
- Once each team has decided what they are going to play, the two teams will line up across the centre line (facing each other). Leave at least a 1 metre space between the teams.
- The teacher then calls out 'rock, paper, scissors, catch' - on catch all players quickly displays their pre-chosen selection. The team that loses must quickly turn around and make a run for their safety zone (I use the basketball end line - once players have crossed the end line they are safe), trying to avoid being tagged by the winning team.
- Any player who gets tagged must join the other team. Continue the game for as many rounds as you would like.
